Winter Reading Program

Read books and win prizes! Beanstack (miopl.beanstack.org/ ) an online platform will keep track of your books and offer additional activities. Three completed books will qualify you for prizes, but the more you read the better your chances! Winners will receive gift cards for local businesses, book bags or free books. Hands on Class – Hand building With Clay

Join artist Virginia Bur and experience the craftsmanship of hand building with clay! In this class, we will explore the ideas of slab building, sculpture, coil or pinch methods of forming ceramic arts. All tools, supplies and colorants/glazes are provided.  Pieces will be high fired, therefore all things will be food safe. *Firing time takes about a month and items will be returned to the library for pick up. 
 
Orion Art Center Pottery Studio Tour

The Oxford Public library is hosting two tours of the Orion Art Center’s Pottery Studio located at Moose Tree Nature Preserve in Lake Orion. The tour of the clay studio will offer an in-depth look at the process of making, bisque firing, glazing, and glaze firing pieces of pottery. The stages of pottery will be discussed (with examples). There will be a demonstration of a slab roller, the pottery wheel, and the extruder in creating functional and decorative art.

The History of Pewabic Pottery

Pewabic is a National Historic Landmark pottery founded in Detroit in 1903. Today it continues to be an active working pottery, architectural tile studio, ceramic arts education center and vibrant cultural destination that attracts visitors from around the world. Join us as a historian from Pewabic shares their deep history.
