Weekly Programs that Require Registration

Bitty Bops (Babies from birth - 23 months, with an adult lap)
Enjoy stories, songs, fingerplays and rhymes with your baby.  Please make other arrangements for siblings so this can be a special time with your child.

Toddler Storytime (Ages 24-35 months, with an adult lap)
Enjoy stories, songs, rhymes and activities with your toddler.  We want to make this a special time for you and your toddler, so please make other arrangements for siblings.
Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. 
January 10 through February 14

Preschool Storytime (Ages 3-5 years)
Listen to stories, sing songs, learn fingerplays & rhymes.  Children should be able to listen independently for this class.  This is a great introduction for children to being in a group and following directions.

After-School Adventures (Grades K-2)
Listen to stories and be creative with arts and crafts and other activities.
Wednesdays, 4:30 - 5:15 p.m.

Lego® Club (Grades 3-5)
Build amazing creations every week!  Each week you will have a different task to build something fun.
Thursdays, 4:30 – 5:15 p.m.

Gingerbread Houses (All ages with an adult helper)
Get into the holiday spirit and bring a grown-up to help you build a gingerbread house with graham crackers, frosting and candies!

A Michievous elf has taken up residence in the Youth Department.  Find her and you'll receive a holiday sticker.

Winter Reading Challenge 2023: All the Feels (Ages 3 and up)
All the Feels encourages readers of all ages to feel, experience and dive into how reading enlivens our emotions - all while earning badges on a virtual bingo card! Participants will earn fun emoji-themed badges for logging the books they read, completing activities, submitting book reviews and earning a bingo.

Introduction to Wood Carving (Grades 2-6)
Gerry and Michelle Burchard will bring their love of wood working to OPL. They will show the children how to do some basic wood carving/wood burning with simple tools. They will teach the children how to safely use the tools to make an artistic design.

Family Book Bingo (Ages 5 and up)
Come to the library, play Bingo, and win books as prizes. Bring the family and have a great time.

Enhanced Storytime (Ages 0-5, with a caregiver)
These monthly storytimes will expand the early literacy and language skills we always incorporate into storytime by adding stations to explore and develop fine motor, sensory, problem solving, gross motor and social emotional skills.  Each family will receive one copy of the featured story to take home and keep. (Made possible by a grant from the Great Start Collaborative)

During the month of February, we will be hiding paper hearths throughtout the Youth Dept.  If you find one and bring it to us at the Youth Desk, you'll be entered into a prize drawing for a soft and huggable prize.

Join us to make Insta Snow Marble Runs. Using this fun product, we'll explore how to structure a marble run.

Using marshmallows, we'll challenge the laws of gravity to see how tall we can build a snowpal.

Join us for this fun class where we will explore making a toy out of everyday items. We'll be looking at using vibrations to make our toy move and dance.

Reading Enrichment Programs

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a Library program that encourages all families and caregivers to read at least 1000 books with their young children before they enter Kindergarten. Reading to preschool-age children builds vocabulary, language skills, and helps prepare them with the skills they need for Kindergarten. In as little as 15 minutes a day, families can build the skills for future school and life success.

100 Books to Read in Kindergarten - Poster

Stop by the Youth Desk and pick up a poster with 100 books to read in Kingergarten and stickers to keep track with.

500 Books Before Middle School (Grades 1-5)

500 Books Before Middle School is a Library program that encourages all elementary students to read 500 books before entering Middle School. Research shows that students who continue to read throughout elementary school have better vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills. It also encourages a life-long love of reading.
