Magazines in the Kid's Department
Did you know we have mazines for all age in the Children's Department? There are magazines for babies, young children, older children, and even adults. Below is a sample of the titles we have.
Wild animal baby, a publication of the National Wildlife Federation for ages 1-3 features stories, activities and fingerplays. Enter your child’s photo to be included on the back cover in a wild alphabet collage!
Babybug is full of stories, rhymes, and bright pictures and printed on sturdy cardboard pages for the smallest hands to enjoy.
Ladybug is for young children ages 2-6. Included are stories, songs, poems, activities, and games. No advertising!
Your Big Backyard is a nature magazine for toddlers and beginning readers. Find out about nature and animals with the many fun activities.
Spider magazine is from the publishers of Babybug, Ladybug, and Cricket. Children can submit their own poems, stories, and art work through various contests this magazine offers.
Appleseeds is full of adventure and exploration for the 7-9 year olds. Each issue is based on a particular theme and includes activities, puzzles, maps, games, and fascinating stories based on the theme. For example, read about George Washington’s childhood prank in The case of the missing wig in the February 2004 issue.
For the 9-14 year olds Cricket magazine is packed full of fantasy, folk tales, poetry, science fiction stories and also includes fun-filled cartoons, puzzles, recipes, and crafts.
Who said learning about American history is boring? Not so – if you read Cobblestone for children ages 9-14! Children can read about events, places, and people who have helped to shape our country. Each issue also has recommended web sites, activities, and brain ticklers. This magazine is not only fun reading but helpful for reports too.
Zoobooks is published by Wildlife Education and each issue focuses on a specific animal or group of animals. Check out the April 2004 issue about animal babies and read about animal babies and do some activities related to animal babies.
Turtle magazine and Sesame Street are for preschoolers and have short stories and easy activities for preschoolers and parents to do. Turtle includes information on health, fitness, nutrition, and safety in a fun and entertaining way. Sesame Street is a fun way to learn numbers and ABCs.
Odyssey is an exciting adventure into science for ages 10-16. You can get science news from around the world, read interviews with leading scientists, see monthly star charts, and try some science activities.
Are you curious about many different things from science to the arts? Then Muse magazine is for you! For ages 10 and up, Muse is written to encourage children to ask questions and think. For example, do you think sugar makes you hyper? Read the January 2004 issue to find out. Think about it: At your birthday party, do you think the ice cream and cake made you hyper or was it the excitement of the party??
Kids Discover, for ages 6 and up, makes it fun to learn about the world. Each issue investigates a different topic from weather to telescopes to the human brain to pyramids.
National Geographic Kids is another multi-topic magazine that makes it fun to learn about the world. Geared for ages 8-14 this magazine has exceptional photography and interesting stories and articles. What are 10 cool things about the movie Lord of the Rings: Return of the King? Find out in the December 2003 issue.
It’s always interesting to find out about other cultures around the world. Take a look at FACES: People, places, and cultures for ages 8-14. Each month FACES focuses on a region of the world and explores that region through photos, maps, folktales, plays, food articles, and almost everything you want to know about that region.
Children are never too young to be curious about science and for children ages 3-7, Click magazine is a wonderful early science magazine. Click, the little cartoon mouse, learns about the world around him through the beautiful artwork, photos, and stories.
Have you ever needed a magazine article for your school report? You should use our Children’s Magazine Guide. This is a subject index to children’s magazines and websites. For example, if you want a magazine article about marine life, look in the Children’s Magazine Guide in the Msection and find names of articles, the magazines where the articles are located, the date of the issue where the articles are located, and the page number. You can always ask a children’s librarian for help using this magazine guide.

Magazines for Kids
