Youth Summer Reading 2014

         All programs are free!

The Youth Summer Reading Program is for children ages 3 to going into 6th grade.  Those going into 6th grade have the option of staying with the youth program or moving up to the Teen Program.

Registration:  June 6 – July 3

Register in person, online (, or by phone (248) 628-3034 x216.  If you register online or by phone you must come in to pick up your materials by July 3.

Upon registering, you will be given a reading log and stickers.  You will keep track of the days you read beginning on the day you register.  For every day that you read (or someone reads to you) at least 20-30 minutes, you put a sticker on your reading log.  Each time you read 5 days, bring your log to the Youth Desk and receive a reading coin.  Save up your reading coins to buy books in our Story Room Bookstore where we have a large selection of books for all ages.  It is your responsibility to keep track of your coins.  We cannot replace lost coins.

Award Celebration

Turn your reading log in at the Youth Desk from July 28-August 1 to receive an invitation to the Award Celebration which will be on Tuesday, August 5 at the Library.  Note: To receive an invitation, you must hand in your reading log with at least 25 days read.  The librarian will hand you an invitation.

The Summer Reading Program will get you started on your summer reading journey.  During the month of August, the librarians will be busy planning for fall programs!  That’s your time to relax, play, read, write letters, draw, paint, swim, camp, fish, jump rope, ride your bike, hike nature trails, rollerblade, and more.  Don’t forget to continue visiting the library and reading a little bit each day so you will be ready for school in September!
